As you know, I have participated in the A to Z blogging challenge with #BlogchatterA2Z where I write on the fun activities that you can do with your kids during the quarantine period. So, in the continuation of the series, the alphabet for today is Q and I have chosen Q for Quilting with kids.
Initially, it might be intimidating for your kids, but when they will learn it with a proper strategy they will definitely develop more interest or maybe they will have the option not to continue this activity. At least, you tried your best to give exposure to your child in different fields of interest.
Why Quilting With Kids?
If your kids are young crafters and loved to work with the scissors, then it might be a new engaging activity for them. Moreover, you don’t need to force them to like this activity. The least you can do is to teach them. And make sure that you should supervise them.

How to do “Quilting With Kids”
If you have done quilting before then you will know that quilting is not an easy task. So, you need to be extra patient and understanding while doing it with your kids.
- The first step is to draw the pattern of your quilt and I would suggest making it square-shaped as it will be easier than any other shape.
- The second step will involve cutting the fabric into the desired shape and then sewing it as per the pattern that you have decided.
- If you want a neat design then you can use an iron to avoid wrinkles on the cloth.
If you want I can make a detailed video on it. Just let me know in the comment section and I would love to help you.
Key Learnings
Here’re a bunch of things that I have learned while doing quilting with my daughter.
- Precision and exact dimension will be the after skill when they are done with this activity.
- You need to be patient enough as one mistake will ruin the whole pattern.
My Overall Experience
Angel, my daughter has always loved to watch me while making quilts. Although, I haven’t given her the complete tasks because I was scared that she might end up hurting herself. But, she loved the learning experience.
So, try out this activity with your kids too and don’t forget to share the experience in the comment section below. If possible, you can also share the pictures of your Quilting that you have made with your kids and tag me, @sneha_261013 on Instagram.
And stay tuned for the next activity from the alphabet, ‘R’! Can you guess it?
