Watch a Movie With Kids

As the whole month of April is locked up in our homes to protect ourselves from the pandemic crisis, we might forget to do fun things as well. Let me ask you a better question: when was the last time you watched a movie with your kids with a tub of popcorn or any other snack?

Just like their education, a little fun is also important. That’s I have participated in the AtoZ Blogging challenge with #BlogChatterA2Z wherein I will be sharing with you a lot of fun activities to do with your kids during the quarantine period.

I have already completed the alphabet U, and today’s alphabet starts with ‘W’ and what’s better than W for watching a movie with kids.

Virtual Tour of Museums With KidsHow to do “Virtual Tour of Museums With Kids”

Doing a Virtual Tour of Museums with Kids isn’t rocket science and you don’t even need a lot of material while doing it. I know you can’t touch or feel the things but the 3D image and zoom-in, zoom-out features are no less than real experience.

Here’re some of the websites that I have referred for doing a Virtual Tour of Museums with Kids:

Check out the article of U on Umbrella Straws with kids

Umbrella Straws With Kids

Summer has officially begun but we have to spend it by staying at home with the family due to the pandemic crisis. And, we can hope to spend the last days of summer with our family by going to beaches or any other vacation spots.

But, we can jazz up and give summer vibes to our kids by preparing some energy drinks for them and what if they get a chance to prepare straws of those summer drinks, sounds exciting, right?

I have participated in the AtoZ Blogging Challenge with #BlogchatterA2Z and my topic for this year is fun activities to do with your kids during the quarantine period. Today’s alphabet starts with ‘U’. And, I have opted for Umbrella Straws with Kids which you can use for their summer drinks.

Every day parents are trying to be creative with food and different to keep their kids sane while staying the whole day at home. So, why not amp up their drinks with the cute umbrella straws that might be prepared by them. Let’s check out the complete process.

Why Umbrella Straws With Kids?

Whenever we go to a party and when the drinks are decorated with the umbrella straws, it attracts us. Isn’t it? So, if your child doesn’t drink milk or any homemade energized drink, then you can decorate it by adding an extra element which is the umbrella straws. Kids definitely get attracted to new and creative things.

Material Required for the Umbrella Straws With Kids

For making Umbrella Straws with Kids you need craft papers, a pair of scissors, glue, stick (or straw). This activity just requires simple materials that can be found at any home.

How to make “Umbrella Straws With Kids”

It took a lot of practice and patience in order to ace in this activity. Rather than explaining to you the process in this blog, I want to embed the video from where I took the inspiration for making Umbrella Straws with kids.

You can obviously customize your umbrella straws based on colour or pattern preference. I have chosen to use a straw instead of the stick, but then it turned out that I have to punch a large hole onto the top of the umbrella. So, I advise you to take straws which have smaller circumference so that you don’t need to punch large holes. You can also use a stick to avoid this extra hassle. Also, I prefer not to use any paper or glue at the end of the straw/stick. As we will use the umbrella straws inside the drink.

Key Learnings

Making umbrella straws with kids is indeed a great experience and it taught me how you get creative little things. And, the presentation of food or drinks definitely plays an important role.

My Overall Experience

Now, whenever I make some green smoothies, Angel doesn’t prefer to drink. I tried to add the flavourful taste and also add these cute umbrella straws and she definitely gives a try to the drink.

So, try out this activity with your kids too, and don’t forget to share the experience in the comment section below. If possible, you can also share the pictures of your umbrellas with your kids and tag me, @sneha_261013 on Instagram.

Treasure Hunt With Kids

Getting creative is becoming tough during quarantine, isn’t it? Searching for a new activity that will keep your kids busy is not an easy task. There are working parents who want to keep their kids sane and involved so that they can complete their work on time.

Well, I have just found a great activity and I am sure this will keep them busy throughout the day. But, you need to work a little extra in the preparation of this activity.

treasure huntIf you are following this A to Z series, then you might know that I am participating in the AtoZ blogging challenge with #BlogChatterA2Z where I have chosen fun activities to do with your kids during the quarantine period. So, today’s alphabet starts with ‘T’. So, I have selected T for Treasure Hunt with Kids.

I know, you might be pondering how to organize a proper treasure hunt. But, don’t I will share my experience with Treasure Hunt activity in my house. But, a little disclaimer that this activity isn’t going to be easy for parents and children. You need to do proper research before setting up the treasure hunt theme for your kids.

Why Treasure Hunt With Kids?

Treasure Hunt can be super exciting for kids as they will need to use their brains to find out the clue so they can win and find out their treasure. It can also be an educational scavenger hunt for kids.

Material Required for the Treasure Hunt With Kids

Generally, you don’t need a lot of materials to plan this Treasure hunt set up with your kids. Just a pen and paper to write your clues for the treasure hunt and a winning prize (it can be anything, chocolate, storybook, or whatever gift they like) to keep them motivated throughout the whole treasure hunt game.

How to do “Treasure Hunt With Kids”

Creating a treasure hunt for your kids can be a little tricky. You need to put great clues and it shouldn’t be easy to find everything at once or too difficult to find their treasure and they might end up losing interest in the game.

Just create good clues related to their educational subjects and then give them a hint to find the location of the next clue. You can also put a small gift or prize after they complete half of the treasure hunt which will motivate them to find and win the treasure.

Key Learnings

This activity has helped us to enhance family bonding with each other. And it was a fun activity to engage your kids into something educational yet fun-loving!

My Overall Experience

Trust me, when I say these treasure hunts are creative, full of fun and interactive and it can be tailored based upon the age of the kids. In our case, Angel and my entire family played this treasure hunt so that they can give hints to my daughter.

So, try out this activity with your kids too, and don’t forget to share the experience in the comment section below. If possible, you can also share the pictures while playing treasure hunt for your kids and tag me, @sneha_261013 on Instagram.

Also, Check the article S for Spelling Practise with Kids

Spelling Practice With Kids

We want our kids to be best in everything, don’t we? And, we pay attention to their writing skills, reading skills but somehow we miss taking care of their spellings. Well, make the use of this quarantine period and help them to practice spelling frequently. Because this activity won’t be completed in a day or two. It needs to practice and should be done consistently.

As you all are aware, that I have participated in the A to Z Blogging Challenge with #BlogChatterA2Z and I have chosen the topic related to the fun activities to do with your kids during the quarantine period. So, the alphabet for today is S, and S for spelling practice with Kids seems the right choice.

We know that spellings are important and it’s not just limited to your English language but also to Hindi or your native language. Children should be persuaded to follow the right spelling, even if they are making mistakes. The ‘let it go’ attitude would be really harmful and can cause a hindrance in their writing comprehension.

Why Spelling Practice With Kids?

Spelling Practice with Kids is essential because people with bad spellings make them look less credible. I know, we might be living in an era where our mobile phones or computers have spell check but it is important that they should know the spelling. I think reading, writing, and spelling are linked together. If any of those are missing, then it will disrupt their writing or reading skills.

Material Required for the Spelling Practice With Kids

There is no specific set of materials required for practising spelling with your kids. It depends upon which way you follow to be creative to make your kids learn the spelling in an easier way so that they can remember it forever.

How to do “Spelling Practice With Kids”

Here are some of the ways that have helped my kids to learn the spelling of different words at ease.

  1. Playing jumbled words with your kids. Jumble up the letters of the word and give them a clue to find out the word and place the word in the correct spellings.
  2. Using a letter bracelet to make words out of it which will add a touch of creativity as well.
  3. Playing spelling bee or spelling contest online or you can even download the Scrabble app as well.
  4. You can even use a Scrabble game as well where your child can arrange the spelling and earn points for that.

Key Learnings

I learned that not every teacher pays proper attention to each child to find out their spelling mistakes. So, these spellings related activities have improved not only her spellings but also her vocabulary. Now, whenever she goes back to school, I don’t have to worry about the spelling mistakes that we have practised.

My Overall Experience

Angel and I had a great experience in trying out different fun ways to learn the spellings but we do practise it daily so that she doesn’t forget spellings the other day.

So, try out this activity with your kids too, and don’t forget to share the experience in the comment section below. If possible, you can also share the pictures of while practising new words and their spellings with your kids and tag me, @sneha_261013 on Instagram.

Reading Books With Kids

Due to the lockdown, almost all the teachers have switched to online classes but still, they are struggling with it because we don’t have a well-defined platform. And, our kids are keeping a distance from the daily educational dose.

So, in this AtoZ Blogging challenge with #BlogchatterA2Z, I wanted to do an activity that should be fun as well as educational. The alphabet for today is R and what’s better than R for Reading Books with Kids.

Books don’t have to be boring. It can be a storybook or a novel that will make them inquisitive about the next plot of the story. Now you must be thinking about what kind of books you can read with kids. Well, for me it varies accordingly. You can let them read graphic books, kids’ novels, fantasy, or maybe family fun.

reading books with kidsSo, let’s check out what kinds of books you can read with your kids and how they will impact them.

Why Reading Books With Kids?

Reading books is one of the great hobbies that your kid can ever have. Well, it’s just more than a hobby as the book has the power to bestow wisdom and life experience into the kids. As per the research, it shows that reading books, singing songs, sharing stories develop a sense of literacy and more understanding of the language. Well, reading books with kids has unlimited benefits.

Material Required for the Reading Books With Kids

You just need a book to start reading with kids. Or maybe not. Because there are a plethora of applications on Play Store or Apple Store that you can download for free.

How to make “Reading Books With Kids”

If you are struggling to evoke reading interest in your kids, then this activity might be a little difficult for you. Because kids don’t care what’s right or wrong for them. They feel happy and interested if they are enjoying it. And, accept it, you can’t just force your kid to read a storybook. But, you can get creative and ignite interest in reading.

  1. Choose the story based on the genre that they will be interested in. For example, my daughter Angel loves to play with dolls and also likes to read about space science. So, I try to find stories based on those genres.
  2. Try to be a great storyteller by giving extra sound effects and suspense. You can mimic the characters that will engross them into your story.
  3. Help them to participate in the storytelling by asking the question, like what will happen next?

Key Learnings

Well, I am an avid reader of books and so is my daughter. We love to read together and discuss our opinion on the ending of the story, characters played in the story, and also add what-if questions to make it interesting.

My Overall Experience

This is one of the best activities that I love doing with my daughter and we tend to spend extra time reading books almost twice or thrice every week. So, try out this activity with your kids too, and don’t forget to share the experience in the comment section below. If possible, you can also share the pictures of while reading your favourite books with your kids and tag me, @sneha_261013 on Instagram.

Quilting With Kids

I know, I know, you might be wondering, how can you teach quilting to your kids. Well, you can do the quilting with your kids. And, if you want to learn more then stay tuned till the end of this blog post.

As you know, I have participated in the A to Z blogging challenge with #BlogchatterA2Z where I write on the fun activities that you can do with your kids during the quarantine period. So, in the continuation of the series, the alphabet for today is Q and I have chosen Q for Quilting with kids.

Initially, it might be intimidating for your kids, but when they will learn it with a proper strategy they will definitely develop more interest or maybe they will have the option not to continue this activity. At least, you tried your best to give exposure to your child in different fields of interest.

Why Quilting With Kids?

If your kids are young crafters and loved to work with the scissors, then it might be a new engaging activity for them. Moreover, you don’t need to force them to like this activity. The least you can do is to teach them. And make sure that you should supervise them.

Material Required for the Quilting With Kids

Materials required for quilting with kids are dependent upon what you are sewing. For the beginner’s level, we can take these materials like solid fabric, coordinating thread, cutting mat, scissors, measuring tape or ruler and a sewing machine,

How to do “Quilting With Kids”

If you have done quilting before then you will know that quilting is not an easy task. So, you need to be extra patient and understanding while doing it with your kids.

  1. The first step is to draw the pattern of your quilt and I would suggest making it square-shaped as it will be easier than any other shape.
  2. The second step will involve cutting the fabric into the desired shape and then sewing it as per the pattern that you have decided.
  3. If you want a neat design then you can use an iron to avoid wrinkles on the cloth.

If you want I can make a detailed video on it. Just let me know in the comment section and I would love to help you.

Key Learnings

Here’re a bunch of things that I have learned while doing quilting with my daughter.

  • Precision and exact dimension will be the after skill when they are done with this activity.
  • You need to be patient enough as one mistake will ruin the whole pattern.

My Overall Experience

Angel, my daughter has always loved to watch me while making quilts. Although, I haven’t given her the complete tasks because I was scared that she might end up hurting herself. But, she loved the learning experience.

So, try out this activity with your kids too and don’t forget to share the experience in the comment section below. If possible, you can also share the pictures of your Quilting that you have made with your kids and tag me, @sneha_261013 on Instagram.

We cut-out the alphabet A from the cardboard and made the balls of paper and dipped into the solution ¾ of glue and ¼ of water. And then stick on the surface of the cutout cardboard and layered it the napkins and then the coat of the glue and water solution for 4-5 times and leave until it dries.
