Here’s why growing up with siblings is a great experience!

#SiblingStories is a blogging train hosted by Ila Varma in collaboration with the Brand Ang Tatva. In this blog train, thirty esteemed bloggers from the logging fraternity have joined hands to participate in the Blog train for #SiblingTalk reviving the sweet and tickling hours spent with loving siblings. It is best to revive the golden memories of the past with our siblings. Dive in to read the blog!

The best relation in the world, we can say is that of Siblings. Siblings relationships are said to be one of the long lasting relations right from birth to death. Other than Parents, Siblings are the one who understands each other in the best possible way. The relationship of Siblings outlast marriages, survive under all the circumstances of life, have lots of love, quarrels but still at the end they are always together. This relationship whether it is between two sisters, two brothers or between a Sister and a brother, it flourishes with time and distance.

Growing up with siblingsIt is saying, “No matter how old you become but when you are with your siblings, you will definitely revert back to your childhood”. The best memories majority of us cherish lifetime are that of Siblings stories, Siblings talk. Some silly talks, stupid ideas executed by either of our brother or sister, studying during exams, playing together, enacting like others, etc are some of the common Siblings stories which every adult wishes to live again and again in their life.

I have a younger brother and I am the elder one. Today after getting marrying, there is not a single day, when I didn’t miss him and his mischievous talks. The way he loves me, the way he fights with me and the way he used to run far away after teasing me on silly things, etc. I just pray God and thank him for giving me such a helping loving and caring brother. Now talking about Siblings talk, Brothers and Sisters can say and share anything and everything to one another that no one else can do.  There is also a saying” Brother and Sister, together as friends, ready to face whatever life sends.” There can be no best friend for a person other than their Siblings. So, it is also always recommended by our elders that one should always be nice to your Siblings because they are the best link of your past and most likely to stay with you in the future. Growing up with siblings is the best gift.

Growing up with your Siblings is a great experience. What kind of person you are…? or How is your nature..? but one thing is true, you learn a lot from your Siblings, they literally shape your life. It is also heard, if you have a Sibling younger than you, he or she protects you from several feelings like loneliness, guilt, fear, self-consciousness etc. Growing up with siblings can be a healing experience in this regard.

Some special moments spend with your loved ones are cherished forever. My personal experience of my journey right from childhood until today with my younger brother is memorable. The time spent with him being his elder sister was more like being a mother to him. He always supported me in my decisions and always stood as a pillar to fight with the problems coming in my way. I still remember the mischiefs done by us during our childhood days when we used to boss around and make our parents listen to our silly complaints. We used to fight over silly and stupid things but couldn’t stay talking to each other for a long time. Our prime time used to be playing with toys and going for cycling and also playing badminton after our school hours. Many times he used to give me the bribe of chocolates for completing his school work. Really, when I think of my Siblings talk, I feel words will not be enough to express my feelings. This is why growing up with siblings is a blessing.

At last, I would like to say “Siblings will take different paths and life may separate them, but the love and bond which they share always remain still and flourishes with time.”

Kids in the Kitchen – Cooking Together and Bonding Together

Children are looking up to their parents since they represent great role models for them. Therefore it’s extremely important to let your child get to know you better and learn from you. After all, a childhood filled with parental love and support is a prerequisite for future healthy relationships and a successful life in general. However, a working parent can’t spend the whole day playing with their children and they must find alternative solutions. Luckily, we have a great suggestion – cooking together.  Kids in the kitchen is a unique concept that increases family bonding. Let the fun bonding time begin!

Benefits of family cooking

Cooking with your children is an amazing way to spend some quality time with them. On top of that, it has been shown to have a lot of benefits for their emotional and cognitive development as well. For instance, you can teach them new vocabulary and show them many exotic ingredients and different kitchenware that they have never heard of before. Furthermore, the kitchen is the perfect place to foster teamwork and show your child how every member of your team is equally valuable and that they need to do their part of the job in order for the meal to be a real success. We guarantee you that your children will feel super proud of themselves because they are trusted with an important task such as selecting groceries, measuring ingredients, peeling the veggies or setting the table. Finally, cooking together with your children will give you an opportunity to teach them about cleanliness. They will become aware of how important it is to keep the kitchen clean and the groceries well-organized in order to prevent potential food spoilage or poisoning. So, exercise the concept of kids in the kitchen more often at your homes.

Set some ground rules – safety comes first

Cooking in the kitchen with your children can be extremely fun and educational, but there are some safety guidelines they must follow in order not to harm themselves. For instance, set the ground rules that they can’t play with electrical appliances like beaters, dicers, hot pans and stovetops. Additionally, keep reminding them that washing their hands is paramount before entering the cooking area in order not to get sick afterward. On the other hand, you can allow them to mix and whisk the ingredients in a bowl or use plastic cookie cutters so that they can shape the dough in any way they want to. Lastly, make sure to invest in high-quality cookware like that made by the amazing Anolon which your children will absolutely love to practice cooking with.

Cooking – fun and educational

Who said that you can’t dress up as pirates with your children and prepare a delicious Caribbean-inspired dish? Sounds fun, doesn’t it? If you truly want to turn your kitchen into a kid’s fun room, you can organize themed cooking evenings for your children’s birthdays or an entertaining night at home. For example, you can even create an international cuisine calendar where a certain week or day of the month will be dedicated to various cultures and their food, so your children can learn about them and have a delicious meal as well. Lastly, the more variety you introduce into the kitchen with different spices, recipes and preparation ideas, the more you’ll promote their creativity and development. So, the concept of kids in the kitchen will bring about overall development.

Invite their friends

Once your children are familiar with the kitchen and all the appliances, accessories and utensils, you can let them invite their friends over for a cooking night. By doing so, your children will create fond memories and develop their social skills. However, don’t expect them to start preparing soufflés and crème brûlées just yet. Instead, stick to something simpler like their favorite cookie, pancake or other easy sweets recipes, but let them decorate and even add their own unique ingredients to the mixture. Keep in mind that kids love to show off in front of their friends so it’s important to supervise them during their little cooking project so they can have fun and be creative. This way, you’ll have a chance to get to know their friends better which will help you create a deeper bond with your children as well.

As you can see, it doesn’t take much effort to turn cooking into a wonderful bonding experience between you and your children. All it takes is ensuring that they are using the items in the kitchen safely and that they have enough different cooking activities that will help them be creative. Bon Appétit.

Witnessing the beauty of Pangong Lake – Day 7!

Leh Ladakh Diaries Day – 7

After a tiring and long journey of Day 6, they left for visiting Pangong Lake. Pangong Lake is said to be the best place of the entire Leh-Ladakh trip. Most of the tourist visit Leh-Ladakh to see this beautiful place. Pangong Lake gained popularity amongst the Indian as well as International tourists after the release of Aamir Khan’s movie 3 Idiots. At this place, the climax scene of the movie was shoot, which was liked by almost all the people who saw the movie, 3 Idiots. After which, it becomes a famous hot-spot for many other movies too.

The sparkling and mind-blowing Pangong Lake is situated in the Himalayan region of Leh-Ladakh at the height of approximate 4350 meters. This beautiful Lake is 12 km long and extends from India to Tibet, among which 2/3 lies in the Tibet region. Since this Lake connects India and China, a lot of security is maintained there. No water sports and no swimming are allowed in this Lake. It is a salty water Lake. The temperature of this place ranges from 5’C to 10’C because of which this Lake freezes completely during the winter season.  One of the unique features of this Lake is its color, which never remains the same and changes from light blue to green and even grey too.

It is a breath-taking 5-6 hour journey to reach Pangong from Leh. My sister and her friends left from Leh around 8:30 in the morning after having breakfast and they reached at the Pangong Lake spot around 2 P.M. While on the way to Pangong, their tour guide suggested them to visit Lake first and then have Lunch and take rest. On the way to Pangong lies the tourist spot Changla Pass, it is another highest point to see and click photographs. There are several modes of transport through which you can reach Pangong Lake but you should make sure whichever vehicle you hire, it should have enough fuel in it and should be completely fine since there are no Petrol Pumps on the way to Pangong.

Pangong LakeAfter reaching Pangong Lake, all the couples enjoyed the beautiful view of crystal waters and gentle hills. They clicked many Photographs since Pangong Lake is said to one of the best Photogenic places. The mesmerizing and the real beauty of the Pangong Lake makes it a favourite destination for film directors for shooting and filming. Many films like Dil Se, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, 3 Idiots, Waqt, Tashan, Heroes etc. have been shot at this place. There are few eatery stalls at this place, where you can enjoy having Maggi and some snacks with hot Tea and Coffee but they took their own snacks at the Lake. One can also find the famous 3 Idiots climax scene scooty model which actress Kareena Kapoor Khan drives in the movie for clicking photographs in the same pose. You will also find the local animal Yak ride there.

The best time to visit this place is during summer Season because during winters the Lake freezes to an absolute turquoise on which one can even walk and the temperature drops to a minimum of – 14’C. And during summer the weather is completely different with open and fresh air with normal temperature and you can also witness migrating birds and other flora fauna.

Many leave on the same day back to Leh, while some opt for a night stay at this place. If you are opting for a night stay, then tents are the only options for stay. The tents there are quite clean, comfortable and cozy. My sister and few couples left on the same day while few couples took the option of night stay to enjoy the beautiful view of the sky at night and also sunrise of Pangong Lake.

One of the must visit places in India Leh Ladakh – Day 4

Leh Ladakh Diaries Day – 4

Continuing from the Day 3 Leh Ladakh journey to Day 4 today. Nubra valley with its breathtaking views, eye-catching greenery, and friendly inhabitants is one of the beautiful and peaceful places to visit. The best time to visit this place is from July to September. At that time the pleasant autumn season lets you enjoy this beautiful and heavenly place. No matter which month you visit this place, the climate there is always pleasant and loving. Mostly the temperature is low and winter wear is must to carry, especially during night time, it’s very chilling. While traveling to Nubra valley from Leh, there comes a place called Khardung La Pass. From Khardung La Pass, it is a single lane road to reach Nubra valley. During the complete journey from Khardung La to Nubra Valley, you will find the areas having barren hills and lands without any greenery but at some places ice melting water is collected, which then is passed to the nearby villages through canals. So, after reaching Nubra Valley they took rest and the next day went for the sight-seeing of Nubra.

Leh LadakhIt was a beautiful place where they stayed at Nubra Valley. They were many tents of the same sizes and shapes were built. Each couple was given a separate tent house room for stay. It was a completely different experience to stay in the tent rooms. The rooms inside the tents were beautifully architect and were having all the basic necessity things. There was heater attached in every tent room on the sleeping bed. Outside the tents rooms was a small but moving water canal was present. The flowing water sound of that canal during night time was very enchanting. Also, there were many fresh Apricots trees outside the tents house, from which you can pluck and eats those fruits as many as you want. The place for having food was nearby and convenient.

After having breakfast they left for ATV Bike ride. ATV stands for All Terrain Vehicle. It is basically a track available to drive ATV bikes near Khalsar village. There were some people and some 10-15 ATV bikes in different colours. If you wish to go on a drive on the ATV bikes you have to pay the amount asked from them and enjoy. For per person, the charges were around 900 and on one bike a couple can travel together, where both can drive one by one under the guidance of the bike driver. He will sit beside you and will guide. He also takes videos and photos of your while driving and enjoying the ATV bike ride. The experience of driving an ATV bike was new for my sister and for many others present with her.  The overall experience of driving that bike was very lovely and adventurous. It was such a pleasant experience that many enjoyed that bike ride more than once.

Leh LadakhThen they went to see Sand dunes. It is actually a place located at Diskit Village at Nubra, basically at the place called Hunder. This area is also known as cold desert were you can see sand dunes spread to some specific location. There were some special kind of camels with a double hunch and also bit small as compared to the camels you must have seen at Rajasthan or at some other place. Tourists enjoy a camel ride there and also it is a beautiful place for photo clicks. The charges for camel ride were around Rs.200 for per person for some 15 minutes and more than 200 for more time. After enjoying at these places they returned back to their tents rooms. Where some couples enjoyed taking rest in the rooms, some enjoyed clicking photos while some enjoyed playing outdoor games.

In my next post, I will discuss about the next day journey of Nubra and about traveling back to Leh.

Surrounded by beauty while traveling in Leh Ladakh – Day 3!

Leh Ladakh Diaries Day – 3

After traveling in Leh Ladakh’s some beautiful places and taking rest in the evening, the next day after having breakfast they left from the Hotel to visit the remaining places of Leh. From the Hotel, they directly went to Shanti Stupa. It was a beautiful place with mind-blowing architecture. The Shanti Stupa was having a two level of construction. The first level was having the statue of Gautam Buddha embellished in Gold color and Dharmachakra and the second level depicts the life, enlightenment and the death of Gautam Buddha. They moved the wheels of the Dharmachakra and made wishes.

They also took the round of entire stupa praying and enjoying the glittering beauty of traveling in Leh Ladakh, as what majority of devotees who visit this place do. The walls of the second level were painted with colorful pictures which depict the complete life of Gautam Buddha. The construction of this beautiful monument was the joint effort of the Japanese and Buddhist monks. The architectural designing of Shanti Stupa is entirely different from the typical Ladakhi style. It is one of the popular spots of Leh-Ladakh and every tourist visiting Leh make sure they don’t miss this place.

After visiting the unique monument Shanti Stupa, they all went to see the Hall of Fame Museum. It is a museum located on the Leh-Kargil road and is constructed by the Indian soldiers in the memory of all the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in different wars for the safety and security of our country. There were several things to see in that museum. The museum was built in two storey and each floor was having few sections. On the upper floor, there was a section named as OP Vijay Gallery, there were several weapons displayed which were used in Kargil war.

In another section on the same floor, there were various apparels and amenities used by Indian Army of the Siachen region. There were also many pictures showing the struggle of Army officers in glaciers and heavy snow-clad regions. Then in one of the section on the ground floor of the same museum were the pictures of the soldiers who fought in Kargil war and also the pictures of all the soldiers, along with their information, who sacrifice their lives for the well- being and safety of the country.  Watching all those pictures made them realize, how precious the sacrifice of our Indian Soldiers is it is only because of them each and every Indian is living a safe and fearful life.

Just a few steps far there was a graveyard, with the graves of the Shahid Soldiers. On the ground floor, there was a section which showed the history, culture and other important facts of Ladakh. It also consists of a souvenir shop where tourists can buy several items including caps, t-shirts, some show pieces related to Ladakh culture, many designs and sizes of dream-catcher, dry-fruits, and pashmina shawls, etc.  The money they collect by selling the above products is then used for the well-being of Indian Soldiers. At last, they showed a video which was actually a documentary on ‘Operation Vijay’of about 35-45 minutes. After watching that video, the tears were rolling from the eyes of an almost every person watching that documentary, since the video was very heart touching and emotional too.
