As a general rule, avoid eating or drinking anything for the last 6 hours prior to the sedation, although a local dentist North Shore families trust might give you other instructions, which should be followed. To make sure you dont get Nausea After Dental Procedure you follow all the steps.

Drink Water – As soon as you come out of the sedation, you should drink water, as your body will be dehydrated from the effects of the medication. A cup of water or two right after you awake will send your body signals that will start the recovery process. Drinking tea or carbonated soft drink can also help, but this is very much trial and error, so see what works best for you.

Stay Active – There is a fine line between doing enough and too much after sedation, so we recommend menial tasks that are not too taxing physically, and getting up for a walk is often all it takes to remove that sick feeling in the stomach. Eat A Stomach-Friendly Meal – Some soup or maybe yoghurt and fruit are ideal for the first post-sedation meal, and avoid anything rich that will take time to digest. A banana for dessert will give you a much-needed energy boost, which will likely aid recovery. If you don’t feel like eating, that’s fine, as not everyone can stomach food after a period of sedation, but make sure you stay hydrated, which will help your body to remove the last traces of the sedation medication.

Don’t Drive To The Appointment – Most people are drowsy for a short period after the sedation wears off, and for this reason, you should have someone drive you home. Perhaps your partner or a good friend can accompany you to the dental clinic, allowing you to relax and enjoy the journey.

Your dentist will give you a set of pre-sedation guidelines, which should be followed, of course, and should you feel a lot of discomfort when you return home, take a couple of paracetamol, which should take the edge of the nauseous feeling. In extreme cases where the sick feeling does not seem to go away, you should consult your doctor, just to be on the safe side.
